@LastVigilante: Elmo's arm movements creeped me out too, though I think it's due to his complete lack of elbows - not seeing his arms bend once in any of those videos is disturbing.

@dcartist: If memory serves, there was some kind of Elmo or Barney that was programmable a few years back, so that's a possibility here.

My main problem with these, other than the creepy kill-you-while-you-sleep factor, is that they aren't at all cuddly. Underneath their thin, red-haired skin is all the bare mechanics, no plush stuffing... not at all pleasant for a child to hold.

This one definitely looks like its got a lot of work to go, aside from pulling the umbilical cord to the computer, did anyone else think it looked like its wrists were broken? Its hands are dangling and flopping all around like dead fish.

So is there any actual information about this?
What is this thing doing? Is it a little robot you connect to a computer with a bunch of wires and it does stuff you tell it to with the computer? Does it only do pre-programmed things? Can you program it to do other things? Naturally the first thing that comes to my juvenile mind is Elmo shouting curse words, but nevertheless...
Since the thing is called Elmo Live, I'm assuming there's some interactivity, and it appears to involve the use of some silver box. Is the magic silver box a PC? Also,since it's only $59.99 I'm assuming this isn't on the order of Supertoys Last All Summer Long. But it's hard to tell much more from what Giz is giving us here.
The videos are cute, but it would be nice to get a bit more background than a link to Fisher-Price's general website.

The only thing creepier would be if it did Michael Jackson songs... these animated figures can have very wierd effects!
For a couple of years at Halloween we used to put out a 18" high animated costumed figure of the devil with with horns and trident and pulsing red LED eyes. Standing by the door, it would slowly move it's bearded head up and down, waving the spear in the air, all the while projecting a really irritating, demonic laugh, eyes piercing the darkness. In other words, it did it's job well.
One year a five year old boy stumbled up the front steps Trick or Treating bag in hand, saw the devil figure and just froze. "Momy, Mommy, this is the one!"
"This is the same one I told you about! He stands at the end of my bed every night!"

Quickly removed, it was tossed into the same box the Tickle Me Elmo hit a few years earlier.

OMG that guy in the white coat is a douchebag with no reason to be reacting like that. I find it creepy and strangely odd that someone his age gets his rocks off at a dancing, singing doll.

To all that think this Elmo is the "best thing evAr!"...as a parent if you ever bought this for my kids I would take you out behind the wood shed and beat the living hell out of you. Then force you to watch the thing dance and shout for 72 hours straight. Then lets see how much you like it.

Now if this thing can walk to the kitchen and bring me a beer while I play my 360...well that may be a different scenario.
