It all depends on the angle, the caliber, and what he was wearing. A friend of mine and I stayed up all New Years eve one time diagnosing a PC and found it was a faulty cable. He took it out back that morning when we discovered it and shot it three times with his .380 and it didn't even penetrate the 8 layer mylar motherboard.

A DVD is hard, and layered so it's possible. I've heard of .22 caliber bullets being stopped by a leather jacket. If he was wearing it and a coat, then it would be more than enough layers to keep it from getting to him. Good for him. I wish there was less people posting wishing he had died over this. What a freakshow of deathmongers.

@Way: Try reading the entire article next time. The case was shattered, the DVD disc itself only suffered minor damage.

The bullet had to have already hit something if it didn't have enough energy to go through two thin layers of plastic.

It could have been a bum round,passed through a wall , window etc. Who knows, who cares even if it had been going just slow enough to get stopped by a couple layers of plastic, your skin is a lot softer than a dvd case, it would have wounded him badly and possibly killed the guy.

Forget inanimate carbon rod, the dvd case should get employee of the month.

@Nathan Drake: It could have been a .22. 22 caliber bullets don't travel that fast from a gun, since they have less powder behind them, and being so small, they are deflected easy by hard objects. The DVD case would have been enough to change the trajectory of the bullet and stop it. Especially depending on the angle in which he was shot. Since he never thought he had been shot at during the fight, it is likely that the bullet came in from an angle and was caught in the DVD case and stopped.
