As many of said, RS used to be (reasonably) good, now they mostly just sell junky toys at high prices. The current clerks are among the most ignorant I've ever encountered in tech retail. For commodity electronic stuff, even Wal-Mart is better.

Dont blame them if they couldnt accept Gift Cards, its not their fault there is actually a law/rules that exists that actually prohibits them from doing so. if youre mad about that, go file a complaint against the people who make the law... onlt people who are st*pid would go ahead and become upset with a customer service representative...

It is correct that they lost alot of profit with the slowing of sales with Ionic Breeze, and with alot of products there have been success and failures much as with any company. However you sound like someone that was around when they took away their commission program, and though you have the right to complain about that, you do not have the right to make off the wall observations about things you don't understand (unless you can claim to have a degree in business). For the record, the gift card/merchandise certificate scenario was court ordered. Not decided by SI. However, from discussing with a friend that still works for SI, there is an estimated date where they plan to begin accepting cards again. Also Chapter 11 doesn't mean the end of the world. Just ask K-Mart, who turned around and bought Sears shortly after going through Ch 11 themselves. This is a move to fix problems they have had, and I look forward to them rebounding.

It's true, 90% of the products tagged with "the sharper image" brand name are total garbage! As for the major brand names we carry, you be the judge. You can buy the same Bose headphones or Microsoft Xbox 360 that they sell, at the same prices.
The fact of the matter is that the sharper image deserves this recent turn of events as prompted by poor business decisions. An obvious lack of a sucessful business plan, grossly inadequate upper management who have failed miserably at implementing necessary and profitable changes, terrible marketing, and (most noticably on a store level) a clear decision to fill the store with cheap crap, have all contributed to the company going bankrupt.
Those at the top of this company have completely failed at accepting any type of responsibility for their current crisis. They cite outside sources such as the oconomy. They even failed to tell the employees any specific details regarding the bankruptcy.

TSI upper management has even came up with the brilliant idea idea of no longer accepting gift cards and store credit slips. Gopod job! Half of my day is now spent apologizing to pissed of customers. At one point yesterday i was lectured by management for agreeing with a cutomer that it was wrong not to honor it.

I will be going into work today due to the loyalty I have for my friends whom i work with. Other than that these people deserve what they get!

Seriously. Who cares? I'm with everyone else. A total idiot had to be running that company. Any catalog your Grandma got in the mail had better, lower priced, gadgets than Sharper Image. I can't believe they got away with selling such lame products at such high prices for so long. Under the same unchanging logo/brand for the last 30 years.

At least Skymall has some innovative or products you've never seen before. They should buy the brand, cut their prices by 4/5th's and sell in their stores.

Radio Shack is soooooo different at every location cuase they are all franchises. I have been to ones run by ham radio guys that were kick ass. And others run by morons simply trying to sell cell service. Thus everyones varying opinion. But most of us seem to know that deep into their inventory (whether the idiot help knows it or not) are objects you can't get anywhere else for totally cheap prices! Love good Radio Shacks! Can you say "Commercial Catalog"?!

Sharper image occasionally has fun things. What I REALLY likes about the ionic breeze was that you could crank the fscker on high, lock a room up, then 24 hours later run in throw the windows wide open, shut it off, and the room wouldn't smell like whatever it was you were trying to kill the smell of. (Smoke in this case.)

But, Brookstone made a smart move in starting to re-create products on their own at much lower prices. I started buying a lot from them because they weren't rip-offs. Sharper Image continued to only sell brand named items at inflated prices (which brookstone still has a sampling of). It's clear who wins this game.
