You're begging a few questions, but they're the right questions to beg. I want the SDK so I can play with it myself -- much like I can play with creating widgets. If I have to go through an Apple-vetting process just to install my own custom app on my own iPhone, I'm not gonna be a happy camper.

Nor are corporate geeks creating company-specific software for their employees. That's the promise of an SDK, and the promise of the iPhone itself as a platform.

Can that be something that can be enabled with a hack even? I know that all the proper hardware is there. I'd also love a GPS fob to plug into the bottom for real GPS, not the cell tower based location that 1.1.3 brought in. I'm also like better integration of the Calender app with Google Calender. The iPhone mail app works so well with Gmail, why not the Calender?

Anyhow, I love my phone. I've been looking forward to the SDK since before it was announced and just rumor. I can wait a couple more weeks, but I will be going the Jailbreak route if it never materializes, or sucks.

...don't let us down Apple. This phone was originally billed as a programable OS X marvel. I won't trust you again if that doesn't turn out to be the case.

In order to have longevity and compete with Symbian, WMobile & Android, the iPhone must have 3rd apps. So Apple must make the first release as good as possible to not piss people off as they did 12 months ago with the safari kit nonsense. If they get this wrong, they'll just have an expensive phone/ipod player. For it to compete in the PDA space, it must open the doors to 3rd party developers.

Seriously though, "I think" that iPhone's SDK is going to be so limited that creating a calculator might be impossible, they can't give out the main code out yet, and I think that this delay is for security reasons, there is no shipping or manufacturing involved, so it is definitely something about security or stability, which makes feel that for some reason Apple is going to cancel the SDK release, just my feeling nothing more or less.

let us wait and see, and if the iPhone SDK gets will used and some good software pops out, I'm definitely buying the iPhone, otherwise I'm still not convinced.

I would go as far as to say that it is almost the Newton reborn. Calling it an iPod is simply marketing BS. It is a PDA, and with the included apps out of the box, it does almost everything I need. Add Java, and maybe Flash (as much as I hate to admit it), actual Notes synching, and Cut/Paste, and I'm all set.

Think about it and look at what a bad deal BREW or Symbian are. A great iPhone SDK is more important than if it is March 1st or April 5th. We will have to live with this SDK for years to come. but honestly after a while I was just like, keeping up with what came out.. there weren't a lot of generally really useful apps.. and I only used about 3 or 4 of them on a regular basis.. and what I noticed was that I wasn't keeping up with any of the "standard" iphone features.. I wasn't updating my music, video, photos, bookmarks, etc etc..

I haven't jailbroken my 1.1.3 yet because using ijailbreak it appears that youtube doesn't work.. and honestly the community is getting really messy, and it's just become a bother to go through it all... this is why the sdk is gong to rule.. neat, organized community, mostly proper code (i assume).. and all in one place where it's easy to manage.. also the fact that I can manage it on my computer and not in installer app is a big plus.

I think the absolutely best app that should be made for the iphone, and the one I would pay for, is that one I read about on here so many weeks ago, that allows you to use the camera on it as an option for videochatting with your ichat.. i remember it just being a dropdown option.. and if they could use the mic too.. boy.. that would be so great.

I've been excited about the sdk since last october.. and I hate delays.. but i guess whatever gets it out proper huh..

From what I've been hearing about from engadget, people have gotten so used to their iphone without third party apps that even without the SDK it wouldn't make much difference. And some people with jailbreak are saying they have found they only use very few of the apps. Wonder if that has been true with people here?
