Good points- I may have jumped a little too high (& mighty) on this one, based on a orchestrated home movie.

And I agree that it would be better to be there with them to explain whats goin on.

I tend to err on the side of caution, so we'll keep watching short episodes of creepy underwater cartoons, and mind-numbing educational stuff for now.

Maybe for her 4th birthday I'll get her a copy of Resevoir Dogs and watch it with her. XD

jeezum crow....I can't believe people are being so critical of this kid beeing shown star wars. Any teacher can tell you that children mature at vastly different rates. This child is obviously pretty advanced for her age and she doesn't seem remotely freeked or traumatized. I know grown folks that seem less secure.

I personally was pretty freaked out by John Carpenter's The Thing when I was 10. An older friend consoled me by telling me about one of the actors playing Santa Claus in another movie. Every kid has to learn to differentiate between fantasy and reality in their own way. My guess is this one will be quite alright.

Yeah, a lot of people think that people who quickly pass judgement on others based on a 88 second glimpse of their lives should be screened for breeding, too.

I'd rather let a child be exposed to things when I am there to educate them about it, then shelter them until they are old enough to leave and be exposed to it on their own with no idea what is going on.

I'm a child psychologist AND a developmental specialist, and I can say with some degree of confidence that Star Wars (A New Hope), when viewed with parents, and when viewed by the right child (as this child might be, given her loquaciousness), is entirely appropriate.

It's children like this that make me love what I do.

I dont think babies should be subjected to adult TV while their brains are so fragile & still developing. I suppose you leave the TV/sound on during commercials too? tsk. tsk.

Yes, I am passing judgment. This is more evidence that people should be screened or at least required to take a class or 2 on child psychology and mental development, before they're allowed to breed.

Right for all the people who are saying she was forced to watch the film, and that she is way to young are complete fools. In the UK Star Wars IV was given a U rating which means for anyone, of any age, not a PG where a parent should be with children under 7 but a U meaning that a child under 7 could watch it alone if they were aloud to. And the guy would said he screamed all the way through Star Wars in '77, i dont believe you, as your parents would have taken you out and smacked you lol. So all you Star Wars haters can just shut up!!!

Star Wars was the first movie I saw in theaters, and I was 3 years old when it came out in 1977. My parents, both academics, took me because they had read NO reviews of it and assumed it was going to be a Carl Sagan/NOVA-esque studious treatment of extra terrestrial science. Short story: I screamed in fear through the entire movie, and was traumatized for weeks after. I asked them, years later, if the "Wars" part of the title shouldn't have given them a hint or two that there might be violence involved...

My kid has this one beat. He's 3-1/2 and knows the entire storyline to the entire saga. It helps that I watch it with him and tell him the names of characters and if they are good and bad. You just don't plop your child in front of a movie like that with out helping them out storyline wise.

His favorite t-shirt has Darth Vader pointing that says "The Spawn of Evil" on it.

My three year old son is hooked on lost. every night when jeopardy is on he asks if lost is next and then explains the episode from last week. It kinda scares me how much he knows about shooting people and them dying but he loves the show. Maybe Ill have to let him watch starwars and see what he says.
