err... excuse me! but this is friggin' 3-D rendering in the la la land! There is no such product and won't be one available anytime soon. Yes you can "theoretically" curve glass (see your windshield), but how practical, repeatable, reliable would that be in mass production and at what cost. Anybody can do anythig with enough time and money but this one people is nothing more than nicely drafted 3D sketches, renderings of a utopia!

An LCD is basically made up of two pieces of polarized glass with some liquid crystals and electrode plane made of indium-tin oxide sandwiched between them. All you would have to do would be to make two curved pieces of glass and the crystals and electrode plane would just be in between. There would be increased cost in making two curved pieces of glass with uniform thickness throughout. It can be done with existing technology.

delithic

I know for privacy reasons a curved screen is helpful. 2nd screen, not so much. 2 cameras are nice only if you want to show people how much dust you have collecting behind your crappy computer (for 99% of the buyers) or a wall most likely. But ideas are ideas and it's always nice to think out of the box.

I do like the monitor and I guarantee if you saw a flat monitor and this monitor sitting side by side and this one cost $100 more, I would think most people would spend the extra money for this one for the coolness factor alone.

Grifter

I think this is cool and shows the possibility of a computer in a less traditional monolithic desktop light. It would seem to me that enabling/disabling the second monitor would be a no brainer setting. The concept could have value in an open floor work environment where, on a swivel, it could eliminate the need to shoulder surf when discussing a work product f2f....ahhhh. Use your imagination boys and girls.

Mish80921

My boss needs one of these so he will not have to "confiscate" one of our monitors when he needs a second screen for presentations. This way, he just activates the back screen and the people sitting in his office can see the monitor without having to crowd behind the desk.

steven522

It will probably be more expensive to make, but I don't see any difference between this and a flat screen technology wise. I think its a neat design. Although the screen on the back defeats the added privacy from the curve reducing the veiwing angle.

delithic

I understand that all this e-ink stuff is flexible but it's nowhere near the stage at which we would want to use it as the primary display on a PC, is it?

So, right now, is it possible to make something like this?

Step666

It's difficult to gage how big this thing is but if it's a big 24"+ monitor, the bezel is way too thick! I'd fatten the bottom up for the computer parts but leave the upper minimalist - almost floating. 2nd monitor is silly - especially in this day and age of e-waste awareness.

I think a better concept would be to use liquid paper with no edge... curved of course. when off, it's just a clear piece of glass - THAT'S great space design!

zarchitect
