I find it humorous that the folks on the $30 SERO plan are actually looking forward to WiMax as it has already been announced that WiMax will not be cheap. Face it, the WiMax targeted customer is not the thrifty consumer looking for a deal. You gotta pay to play.

dink23

Not sure why everyone says "Sprint sucks". Their coverage isn't bad in Denver and in most areas I travel to. The customer service is getting better as of late. The phones might not "look cool" but they do all the same things as the other phones as far as features are concerned. To say Sprint "SUCKS" is a little immature.

BenG9810

Well it is funny how so many ignorant people make comments.
Sprint lost 30 Billion as it took the charges of Nextel integration. They will get out of the iDEN network they have had to deal with when Nextel was merged with Sprint. If you asked the Engineers they would have advised not to but the Suits did it cuz Wall Street made money in the M&A transaction.
As it pertains to WiMAX, Sprint will most likely get away from the basic phones/plans business in 2010 wherein they will be providing the Network and you can connect to that network with anything that has WimAX built into it. So a Laptop with WImAX chipsets from Intel will be able to get High speed Broadband connections.
There are devices being built that are basically Ultra Mobile PC's which are WiMax ready and when at home or at work or in the car you connect to a dock and get the display/Display/Keyboard/Mouse functions and all your data is kept in the Network cloud.
What all this means for Sprint is they will sell you Broadband connection based on WiMax and will have different plans/revenue models with Applications Services that use that network to deliver the services the consumer wants.
One has to be patient and has to hope that they execute the vision they have laid out.

Dumbnutz

I've never really had any problems with Sprint Customer service, but then again, I have a personal Sprint Customer Representative that takes care of me; one on one. Basically, all you really need to have is a company that does decent sized business with Sprint and they assign you a representative to take care of your company, in my case, the company being the NIH/NIAID. I have the SERO plan like most people and an additional .gov discount. Although I recently received free tethering (they just flat out gave it to me for free when I asked my rep about it), it really wasn't an issue before because of PDAnet which gives you the ability to tether through your handset's EVDO connection, rather than establishing a typical modem tethering connection. Coverage has been good in every place I've traveled to with the exception of a couple of places in CA which were spotty.

Doc_Lee

Actually, I've been waiting for this announcement since the advent of WiMax. I currently have the Sprint SERO plan. $30/month +tax for all my calls, txt, and unlimited data. I've just been waiting for WiMax to be unleashed so when I tether my cell phone to my laptop I get decent data transfer speeds. This news has made my year - since previous news has not mentioned anything about integrating WiMax into cell phones. I never deal with customer service or have coverage issues. I don't understand why everyone doesn't do this. If the data through WiMax is fast enough, I may cancel my broadband. Now, I just hope they get some good handsets to put WiMax into.

FlipSwitch

Customer service at sprints SUCKS when I have to try to get someone in India to understand my problem (their speaking is far better than their understanding) but eexcellent when I get a service center in U.S. or Canada. If I get frustraed enough with the Indians, I can get them to switch me to a more local service center, although I then have to wait 15 minjutes on line. All this said, the reason I was with sprint was that, until recently, they were the only ones wiht an unlimited data plan at a reasonable price. Things are changing and I may too. I have yet to understand what WIMAX will give me over the present EVDO-REV A (which gives me better speed than my crappy old DSL line from AT&T - formerly SBC- formerly PacTEl- formerly PacBell- formerly a sbusidiary of AT&T)

Skeptical_Geezer

It's true their coverage isn't as good as some others, but in the over 9 years I've been with them I've had a bad customer service experience ONCE, at that point a called back a day later and it was fixed. All they need is some better phones, and I'm looking to jump ship when my currently contract expires in June. The only thing I hear people complain about with Sprint is their coverage and customer service. Well, call coverage is fine here, and I'd assume with an unlimited everything plan, I'd never need to call customer service about some unknown fees.

gizak
