@mrxcel
Mine does the same thing too when using cordless phone. I also find that g is a little slow for file transfer since my HD (NDAS) is connected to the ethernet port of the Express. My iTunes library is on that HD and when I import a new CD I always connect wired to the HD instead of wireless through the Express.

@Mini Driver
There was a couple of comments on the Apple Swiss site about the short life (12-18 months) of this unit and they were blaming the battery??? Which lead me to pose the question here. I've been having mine for a good 3 years now without any problems but my brother have one too and it died after 1.5 year.

@brandon208402
I didn't need to use a hack? Just plugged it in the ethernet port of the Express and Time Machine asked me if I wanted to use it (just plug and play really). I'm able to use Time Machine to recover deleted files but I did not actually try a complete system restore...

Dr_Blip

No Battery.
Yes they last 12 to 18 months and just die. My first airport Express died after 17 months and my Airport extreme just after 12 months

GzExFo

When I'm going to be in a hotel for more than two or three days I *always* take an Airport Express with me in case the room has wired ethernet and not wifi. It's wonderful to be able to create my own wireless access in a hotel room.

kostia

I think buying 2,3 or 4 is sort of the idea, so that you can have them all over the house streaming music.

The choice to only include NAS drive compatibility is quite annoying though.

Keebler

this is great...for everyone that lives in a studio apartment. spend the dough and get a real airport base station, or go with more dedicated companies. Unless apple shoved more signal strength into that thing, forget covering a moderately sized home with that alone (unless you plan on buying 2 or 3, or maybe even 4!)

discounteggroll

@Dr_Blip:

I wouldn't recommend using Time Machine with anything other than Apple's Time Capsule. The hack that is floating around is just not reliable since the backups made to NAS devices is not verifiable. Your backups may look fine but wind up being corrupted when you go to do a complete system restore.

And just so it's clear, the Airport Express currently does NOT support external USB HDs (ethernet is cool though). This new N based router remains to be seen.

brandon208402

It is already possible with NDAS hard drive, I have a Ximeta HD connected to my Airport Express (g), and I use it with Time Machine. 802.11n would be a nice speed addition though.

Dr_Blip

actually i believe it lists 802.11n support. doesn't look like they ever made an "n" in the 802.1 series. [en.wikipedia.org]
