When I tell CA/TX/FL people that we dont have Mexicans at our HD stores, they dont believe me, they cant imagine it and ask, "Who do you get to cut your grass, build things, etc." I do it myself or pay a regular contractor. These amazed people are the same ones who want to deport all undocumented aliens. Ironic, isnt it?

Curves

@nutbastard: ...it was not the joke, but the comment and the excuse of it beforehand. It's just something that has always bothered me. Things like: 'or as my friend would say' usually means 'what i would say if knew you better' much like the 'a friend of mine has this physchological problem'. It wasn't the Hombre comment, it was the Meximerica that bothered me.

As someone exposed to 'harmless' racial comments at least once a week, I've become a bit sensative. I make it a point to speak up when these things are uttered. If my reply was over-sensative, I appologize.

Lizard_King

Oh get off the PC high horse - he could have chosen to use any number of derogatory, hateful terms for Mexicans. Hombre translates as "Man". Mexicans day laborers hang out at Home Depot. There's nothing racist about simply acknowledging the existence of ethnic groups... but on the other hand it's not a particularly funny 'joke'.

nutbastard

MDF takes a coat of paint well, and it is really cheap. More than enough for two arcade sticks can be bought for under $20 and they will even rough cut them on the saw for you at Home Depot.

Or as my racist friend calls it "Hombre Depot". If you get the joke, welcome to the United States of Meximerica.

dragonphyre

Nice work.

I built an arcade controller when the 360 first came out. Wireless, two joysticks (one with top fire for Geometry wars and Mutant Storm) and 7 buttons (hybrid SNG/Street Fighter layout). When SFII came out I had to redo the button configuration a bit, but it's been sitting idle for a while since no good arcade games have been trickling out on Live. It last saw use with PacMan CE.

The hardest part was the Guide button. I used a wireless controller for the circuit board, and ran fiber optic lines from a cut Toslink cable to a clear controller button....it was a bit weak, but I didn't have the skill to replace the SMT LEDs on the board. Other small issues were the headset input and batteries, but I built in a Plug and charge kit and an aftermarket headset adapater to allow the use of standard headphones and a standard USB cable for charging.

My case is scrappy though....it's particle board (standard fare for an arcade cab) with T moulding and a plexi top.

Lizard_King
