There's no way a filter will last five years, I've got two Ionic Breeze Quadras and they get dirty so bad every couple weeks it's not funny. Of course they only work in rooms with ceiling fans since they don't move the air very much on their own. They do pick up a lot of dust from the popcorn ceiling and wall to wall carpet though.
If they use any kind of wick for humidifying, it's going to get buildup and maybe mold on it if you don't keep up with cleaning it. This may be good if you're renting or an apartment, but for a home get a whole house humidifier with UV light to kill mold when it goes through the air handler.
Also just putting weather stripping on your door to the air handler, and cutting a hole in the door and putting a louver cover over it, and building a small bracket to hold another air filter so the air going into the room gets filtered even before it hits the air handler will do a world of good. Also the first filter is much easier to check and clean than the main one, which will hardly get dirty at all.

Hello_Newman

And how do you measure "cleaner" my friend celluloids - or lack thereof?

There is no way to measure air-quality accurately. And whoever claims is a tard. It's like people asking docs "can you cure my cold".

If you dont get this arguement - you are "one of those".

JJ910

@SigmundTheSeaMonster: It could still be a simple evaporative humidifier using a wick which means you won't get that nasty white dust. Also explains why it can only reach 50% humidity.
Personally, I prefer the warm mist because I turn my apartment into the amazon jungle with humidity practically dripping from the ceiling.

sdonham
