I've used gloves like this for whittling. They protect against slashes, not stabs (when teaching little kids this, you take the knife and show them. If the kids think they protect against everything, the little bastards go fuck-all with knife safety).

Kevlar butchers gloves that look to be made of a very similar material have been available for many years. I wore them in the early 80s while repairing meat slicers for a living, ...and I never lost a digit.

This cloth may be a little thinner and lighter weight, it hard to tell from a photo (and hard not to look past the mesh) but the gloves are fairly light and comfortable.

I'm not surprised about the non-protection from stabbing - even the early 1990s military bullet "resistant" vest I was issued (which could stop a 9mm bullet and at least greatly slow a 7.62) was vulnerable to a stabbing attack. I would think that the newer vests with ceramic plates would be pretty good so long as the stabber hit a plate.

@vagrant: good point - so you're protected if someone slashes, but not if someone stabs. Though I'm sure many attacks are referred to as "slashings" there are probably a lot more people injured by stabbings.

The thing is, you'd want a long sleeve version, as humans will throw their arms up during an attack, to protect the head. This shirt is only good, if at all, against slashing and not pointed attacks. "The company used a slightly thick fiber that is three times stronger as cotton for the T-shirt." That doesn't sound to strong to me. Hopefully the attacker co-operates and only slashes as the blunt force trauma will really do you in.
