Considering the general willingness and enthusiasm to mutilate bodies with piercings and tattoos, I don't think too many of the next couple generations will have qualms about electronic implants - the biggest concern may just be privacy and tracking, but seeing as even criminals of today often don't even attempt to hide their tattoos in the process of committing criminal acts, it will get little second thought.

I can certainly see the benefits of getting wired up (if this becomes commonplace I want to get a vibrator implanted in my penis - for her pleasure and mine), but also see the dangers (Johnny mnemonic anyone?)

Fierock

Thats basically what happened with the sidekicks.
Do you all remember the first sidekick. Huge like a brick with that cool cartoon commercial of the japanese spy running away because he was almost caught by some spys. Then he flips open his sidekick and msg's someone and i forget the rest.
The sidekick was a gamble on something that everyone wanted and was the phone that started the aim revolution. Now everyone uses aim on their phone and qwerty keyboards are popular and everyone wants one.
The iphone was a phone full touchscreen reliable OS and easy to use.
I can keep going on and mobile companies never learn.
We want a phone where everything is at your fingertips and you dont have to look through things to find the features and programs.

SneakerFiend

Integrating technology and biology is already advancing more than people realize, and the ability for implanted prosthetics to communicate with the outside world is one of their most useful features. The trick is not call them "cell phones." For the most part, an iPhone isn't a cell phone, so why would a swarm of nanobots delivering medication, fortifying bone or brain function, or aiding respiration be called a "cell phone" either?

frigg

Okay, phones powered by human movement I buy. We are already starting to see the beginnings of this. This one is a winner.

Phones controlled by thought? Ignoring the easy jokes here, I think it is probably best that we get any personal technology at the local store that does this before we talk about it being embedded in cell phones.

And, lastly .. Having a cell phone cure you? Not to pry, but how old is this person? He either has a list of things he needs cured, or has watched a few too many episodes of Star Trek. Not to say that some century in the future this will not happen, but I doubt in my lifetime, and certainly not in his.

Monty
