We have 3, they're all new-ish networked colour Toshiba machines, and on a typical week on 4 out of 5 days, at least one will have a post-it note with the dreaded phrase "Engineer called" on it.
Jams in the duplexer, finisher jams, running out of paper, ADF jams... it's never happy.

The fax machine is living on borrowed time, but will still be going strong in 5, maybe 10 years' time. Why? Well, try emailing a PDF when your IT dept have taken all the servers offline in the middle of the day, like they did on Friday. And even if they were online, in a race to get a 3-page document to a supplier, faxing would beat scannign to PDF and emailing for speed and certainty of delivery.

Actually, can I just smash our IT dept for giving us 30 minutes' notice of an hour's downtime and then taking 2 hours to bring us back online?

Let's see how quick I get a new printer when it "falls" off the cabinet.

Working in the 'paperless' claims department of an international insurance broker, I shovel around an obscene amount of the white stuff.

The fax is slow, requires things to pass through about four more pairs of hands than necessary, and often ruins image quality.

Admittedly, it is easy to send, however, the receiving process is contrived and wasteful.

Before I cleaned it, anytime I opened a .txt file; it would sound like a jet taking off. It would be better served with more memory, only 512MB in it, and IE 7/Firefox/any browser with tabs. Second: Cell Phones. Customers come in to my store, tell me they are in a terrible rush, ask me a simple question. Before I can answer their cell phone rings. I get the "HUSH" finger in my face and my customer wanders around the store for an hour (I have seen two hours)arguing and shouting personal and private information in a very public place.

I work from home now but in my last job, a Multi-Billion dollar Medical Devices company, the damned shredder was always full with the red light blinking and non-functional. I don't know, maybe blame the the admins for not calling the company that removed the contents or something but I always wondered why have a shredder if it can't be used. I also asked myself why it was always full. The big blue bin where one was supposed to place sensitive documents for destruction was always full as well. Could it be the company had so many papers to shred? Hmm. I don't know about that one...

Although the Centro is not a bad gadget, at least some reports say it's more stable. oh well got an iPhone and maybe even ebay that for a tilt...is the tile all it's cracked up to be? Seems feature loaded!!! Is it stable or shall I keep iPhone?

I really like the MANY feature of the Tilt, I think...not really a fanboy of Apple and do like my iPhone, but the latest tilt looks quite impressive unless buggy as hell.

That thing is horrible, now that 7.5.1 has all kinds of animated images support, people send stuff which is down right annoying while reading an ourput which I have to debug or make sense of. Not to mention those 30 member IM conferences and to be on a phone conference at the same time, is damn annoying and waste of time. To top all this, it does not even stay connected for more than 8 hours if I am on an all night multi-time zone conference, does not even support fail-over fail-back correctly. Pidgin works better than SameTime.

List is so long I don't even know where to start.

My printer at home for starters. It's an HP 830C.
Several times the paper tray fails to stack the printed pages correctly, then it starts to mess things up, and the final result is tons of misprinted and ruined papers.

So, when I have to print tens of pages, I have to keep watching the printer... which is ridiculous.

I also would like to smash my laptop for failing me... the 3D card just gone berserk. Currently waiting for support to give me a solution.

I also had to deal with dot matrix printers... paper jams were very very frequent.

I'm also saving a piece of crap Greatspeed ADSL router I had to smash it someday, along with the useless Belkin wireless router I'm still using right now.

Oh, and about 4 external HDD (USB) cases.

There's probably more I can't remember right now.

So many of our clients and many judges take pdf's by email, but every now and then some old-school bitch wants us to send dozens of pages of crap over this slow ass line, only to have it stall once the memory is exceeded, or have a failed fax because the machine on the receiving end is OFF, or doesn't have paper, or there's a bad connection somewhere. This is 2008 you bastards!

I want to build a trebuchet, attach this fucker, and launch a barrel full of dynamite with a carefully set timer so that I can launch it on another trebuchet and have them both rendezvous in midair.

First I'd take the eternally broken office chair, the one that no matter what happens you end up sitting on during a meeting, the one that slowly descends as you sit in it- yea, I'd torch that.

Then I'd knee cap the copier that the other offices use. I'm tired of fixing other people's copiers.

Then I'd take a break and install an new network switch. The old switch would be shoved in the elevator gap. I can hear it's scrapping screams now.

Lastly, I'd gather all the UPS's, plug them into one power strip, and wait for one to beep. One bullet- it would quiet the rest.

I feel better. (This was all in good humor, except for the office chair. It's going out the window tonight.)

How corporations are still using these ancient forms of communication is beyond me. There are printers that can scan a gazillion pages into a PDF for you so that you can email them... stop using fax machines!

Then again, I probably wouldn't be so bitter if all fax machines weren't engineered to look and operate like complete and utter shit. Grrr...
