I see these things flying into and out of Boeing Field. They fly lower than my office downtown at times (54th floor) and they look awesome. Their silhouette is unmistakable from miles away. When they actually get to Boeing field, traffic along I5 crawls while everyone watches it touchdown.

@schrosa: Uhm, they are shipping. The parts are too big for any other method of transport between the points they need.

And while you could use this to transport massive amouts of cargo, the plane is designed to transport a large VOLUME of cargo, not WEIGHT. So you could load it with 500,000lbs of lead, and take up 1/3 of the space, or 500,000lbs of styrofoam, and take it all up.

@djohnson60618: Money talks. I'm sure you wouldn't mind going to your boss and telling him you'll work for free, right? But you're right about what we could accomplish if we only could make a profit out of it. I once heard of this group of guys that created a process that could recycle old tires for their raw materials with basically 100% recovery and zero pollution. Problem was, that for every dollar spent to recycle the tires, they could only get 1 dollar back. So tire fields continue to grow and grow. The problem with mankind is primarily that no matter what, we tend to want more and more rather than be happy with what we have. Even the uber rich people who shouldn't want for more usually still do.
