Pwnage iPhone Unlocking and Hacking Tool Now Available, Works Great

hey guys who've updated to 2.0, i got mine back working from there last night- took a few hours to figure out. You'll need to completely uninstall itunes 7.7 back to 7.5, and remove any files itunes installed. Follow this tutorial step by step: [theiphoneproject.org] Reboot after uninstalling and then again after reinstalling 7.5. Get files for pwnage here: [iphonefreakz.com]
You have to hold option while clicking restore in itunes and you can manually select the restore file (use 1.1.4). You will get an error message, 1015 or something. If you get 20 or 1601 or something, make sure itunes 7.7 was completely off the system and try rebooting again, worked for me. After you get to the 1015 error it's time to use pwnage. Then after you've reflashed the iphone, you can make a custom file to flash to it, selecting all the options listed to activate and unlock and boot neuter. Use itunes again to install this when it's compiled. Now however after its flashed boot neuter won't work, you'll get error message 5 because the baseband needs to be erased. Use a modified version of ziphone (ZiPhoneOSX patched by kIREmK 04.05.04_G) for to do just this, as explained here: [www.iclarified.com] You run that, and when it reboots you have a working phone again. Should only take an hour knowing the steps. Needless to say I was up all night figuring it out though. Good luck!

argh! I've done the same, and after downloading one click software that claimed to be able to unlock V 2.0, I been unlocking iphones for just under a year and no past solutions to virginize or downgrade firmware work... DON"T UPGRADE UNLOCKED PHONE...
please does anybody have any uses for a 1/2" thick plastic brick

argh! I can tell you what to NOT do, do NOT upgrade your itunes to 7.7 and then upgrade your phone to 2.0 and then expect to unlock it using any one-click tools. I am now without a working phone and it really pisses me off. I know it is only my own fault, but now I can not downgrade to 1.1.4/1.1.3 and itunes cant even restore the phone to do shit. fuck.

Ok, please help me if i'm a bit behind here. I have just bought a brand new iPhone.I've bought it strait from apple without any network package.

Am i right in thinking i need to activate the phone with jailbreak, upgrade the firmware, remove the jailbreak and only then use Pwnage with the new updated firmware?

@nytheron: you have to hold down the "option" key while you click "restore" in itunes(its who you browse for restore files on your comp). Then go to wherever you saved your custom FW file and click on it

this works 100%.

i have pwned the phone with 1.1.4, then pwned with 1.1.4 custom firmware to unlock the baseband so i could use with other carriers. I have yet not test with other SIM Cards, since i have original carrier.

once it is done, you get two new icons which are the Neuter and the INSTALLER.

sigmacrow - You're still in good shape. I had the same problem. Create a new custom IPSW with your existing 1.1.4 firmware (~/Library/iTunes/). Check all boxes except the two for the bootloaders (3.9 / 4.6). You'll be asked for the bootloader images (link is above). Update the phone with the 1.1.4 firmware. When this is complete, you should have AT&T service back. Now create a new IPSW with the 1.2 firmware and load on your phone. Should be good to go with AT&T service.

@keats: don't worry no one was born knowing it all ... we all had to start somewhere.

If what you want is to "jailbreak" (ie run 3rd party apps) this tool is not for you, you are better off with this one [download.ziphone.org] just plug your phone shut down itunes and select jailbreak. Then follow the instructions. Its pretty much a one click deal.

pwnage does this too but its like using a cannon to kill a fly.

I'm having a problem with this. I initially installed the custom firmware with only Activate Phone and Custom Images checked, but when I finished installing and iTunes asked me what to use to backup, I asked it to use my actual backup instead of starting a new phone. When everything was done, the iPhone was named "untitled playlist" and i lost all AT&T signal.

I figured I did something wrong, so I restored the iPhone completely and started over. I pwned it again fine. Installed the same firmware with the same boxes checked but this time told it to start as a new phone. Everything worked fine, and now the iPhone has the right name but it still says "No Service".

Have I permanently damaged something in my iPhone or did I do something wrong?

I just downloaded "iPhone1,1_2.0_5A225c_Restore.ipsw", which I thought was the "official" beta. After it finished, it said "unable to activate". I had to put m iphone into resore mode and now I'm reflashing.

I'm not trying to hack my phone, just install the latest firmware. Any idea why it wouldn't work?

The phone itself is fully unlocked. I also installed a few 3rd party apps again and they work just fine.

Now, unless you are only 1.1.3 or earlier OR you used ZiPhone to unlock 1.1.4, don't fix what isn't broken. Just wait to use the Pwnage tool on the "official" 2.0 firmware.

i've been to the website trying to understand it all. numerous blogs describing what it does, all in an attempt to understand it rather going in blind and just flashing/jailbreaking/whatever my iphone.

i want to learn, but I have no idea what a bootloader is, or the other things associated with this tool.

can someone point me in the right direction to what steps I should be taking in order to understand this? really, all i want to do is have the ability to add 3rd part software on my 1.1.4 device. But being stupid in this area, i don't want to jack up my phone.

if (assuming i try) i do, can it be reflashed to the original software?

@GulfVetSAF: the CDMA vs. GSM functionality is implemented in hardware, not software, so there's no way to make an iPhone talk to a Verizon (or Sprint, for that matter) tower via a software hack. Apple would have to manufacture a CDMA iPhone.

Given the current exclusivity agreement and the fact that most of the rest of the world is already standardized on GSM, I don't find that likely at all until the AT&T agreement expires (in 2012, right?).

1) any version people find on the net of 1.2/2.0 is a hacked version. No need to say you need a hacked version of it. (its like saying you need a watermelon that tastes like watermelon)

@tallboy: you dont. i think giz (or jesus diaz) is misunderstanding. you use one of your old FWs. if you've so much as upgraded or just restored your phone the files are in your itunes folder. once you have it, pwnage gives you the "options" of what to do with it, hence the "IPSW builder" button. it has the options to add unlock, activate, upgrade baseband, bootloader(provided you have the 3.9 and 4.6 img's) to the FW. then after it's done it loads the "modified" FW to your phone.

@phantam: stay away from ziphone. zibri just copies other peoples work and passes it off as his own. plus it does more damage to the iphone than it's worth if you want to unlock it. use iLiberty.

I'm one of the poor sods up in Canada who's had to struggle day in and day out without a precious iPhone to keep me company...haha...
I'll be visiting the states in the coming weeks and I am pretty psyched to buy an iPhone and try this out...
Do you think it's worth it?

Also, I'm a bit confused about the firmware part... does the Pwnage Tool include a unlocked copy of the 1.1.4 firmware?
And where can we get a version of the unlocked 1.2 (2.0) firmware?

Currently testing now. I recommend before using the Pwnage tool to restore your firmware so that any previous unlocks (specifically the anySIM & ZiPhone variety) aren't causing conflicts. I got a failed NOR flash, and had to restore my firmware in order to get it working.

In Lecture.... and downloading it now via HSDPA with my nokia e90.... i know i generally complain about the iphone but this is worth downloading just in case + plus as the geek of my class one has to be on top of things. Its fun seeing reading and making a fuss with the apple funboys anyway.
