I must say that neither of mine have ever had pot in them. In fact, I've had multiple friends of mine tell me that if you mix shisha and pot (or just use the same hookah for both at different times) it can make you extremely sick. Not high sick, but barfing sick. So I would lean away from generalizing this as a table to get high with.

And as a dutch guy, living in israel i have one comment only on the 'other' uses of the hookah: buy a g-d bong, it's like using your car to fry an egg, it works, but it looks stupid.

I have a hooka currently that I brought home from Iraq, and is strictly used for flavored tobacco. Its a very smooth smoke and you get a buss just form the tobacco. No need for additional illeagal substances IMHO.
...but $600 is a little pricey for an occasional smoke of tobacco...
