The really funny thing is that this EXACT same thing happened with XP when it was released. Everyone hated it, then all of a sudden they loved it. It was exactly as stable as it always was, it still had the theme, people just stopped hating it and now everyone's using it. I also believe the same thing will happen with Vista.

i have been building all my own machines for 10 years or better, and all have been windows based. (i did just buy my first lappy though, an eee and the first thing i did after upgrading the hardware was to put windows xp home on it)

the closest i have ever been to a mac was on saturday night at my brothers girlfriends house

nice machine, but not my cup of tea

See refer to previous stories concerning leopard being the first to get pwned and problems with Vista being mostly related to NVIDIA writing bad drivers. In my experience with Vista I'd say it's easily the most reliable out of the box operating system MS has ever created.

I too prefer Macs but find the whole Vista bashing phenomenon to be a lot more about herd mentality and the current "It's hip to bash Microsoft." mindset. Five or ten years from now, when the coolness factor surrounding Apple products fades, I can easily see them becoming the new brand that it's cool to hate.

Personally, it is nice to delay it as much as possible. I have no interest in upgrading the OS on all of these systems any day soon. True evolution of the Windows OS stopped with Windows 2000 as far as I am concerned.

i have 2-3 different friends that ran ME, and i had the pleasure dealing with all their troubles with it
like any OS i am sure it ran well in some configs, but for the average users, like my friends it was a POS
vista is a total system hog, and i wont run it ever.
i bought my girl a dell lappy with it installed, i set it up just the way it wanted to be setup, and it blew
i wiped the drive, put on a modded copy of xp pro, and zoom!!!!
no problemo since
MS is in the position now of having to PROVE that the new OS won't suck as bad as vista

I'm looking forward to the MinWin core and I just hope that the current layout designer (same designer as Office 2007) can throw something brilliant. Seriously, Office 2007 was pretty intuitive if you think about it. People only hate it because it looked different (and the ugly blue). But honestly, the user layout was way more efficient.

I know ME gets a lot of shit, but it wasn't the total system hog that Vista is. MS needs to base Windows 7 around the UNIX kernel and bring the stability and speed we desire back into the picture of future computing.
