Q: Why white?
A: To match the Wii white color.

Q: Why a Gamecube controller?
A: 'cause the controller is well design, why change something that is great. Look at the PS1, PS2 and PS3 controller... the shape is nearly or even the same between each console. Also they don't have to invest a great amount of money to design a new controller that could potentially fail. (they make more money this way... everyone is happy)

Q: Why?
A: Because game like Super Smash Brothers Brawl, were actually design for the GameCube Controller. I played to much Super Smash Brother Melee that on of my controller is analogue stick got loose. It needs to be replaced. I tried the other configurations and like all review sites... it is hard to control. The Wiimote is not design for fighting games. So, as more fighting games gets released (not form Nintendo) that fail due to horrible controls, can actually be fine with the GameCube Controller. They just need to actually support it.

Q: Why a wire?
A: Nintendo already has the classic controller, which they want still to sell. So it could be a reason.

Q: Why a 3m long wire.
A: I use my Game Cube controller for my Wii, and like when I was playing on the GameCube, you have to pull out the console pretty close to you, from the TV, so that the controller can barely reach you. Even with the stand, form gaming excitement I can't tell you how many time the Wii fell, or keeps jumping (same with GameCube) from one side to another when it is flat on a multilayer game.
I got some GameCube controller extension cords to resolve the issue. So now, you don't need to try and battle your self to find these extension cord, as those third party company also stop producing them as the GameCube controller is not produced anymore.

Wii has far outsold the Gamecube. Therefore, there are many Wii owners that never had Gamecubes and thus don't own Gamecube controllers (which is the best controller for Brawl).

I bought some bargain 3rd party gamecube controllers off ebay (2 for $25) and after a week the rubber control stick has all but disintegrated. meanwhile the original gamecube controllers (the ones which i played melee on and now brawl) are still working perfectly.

i would also like to add that the gamecube controllers are probably the most ergonomic controllers i have ever used. my only gripe is that they could be a tad larger.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense to me unless it plugs into the Wii-remote. If it does, I think it's a great product. Right now, I *hate* playing Gamecube games on my Wii because it results in cords all over my living room.

The Gamecube controller is one of the best designed controllers of all time. Plus if you have a shit ton of old ROMs like me, the Gamecube controller would make an excellent addition. Have you seen the state of PC controllers? They haven't gotten any cooler since the 90s. My old Sidewinder 6 button still p0wns on fighters and the dual shock is nice, but not necessarily the best choice for every game. Adapters are wanky.

That doesn't answer your question at all, but at least shuffles the blame back a handful of years or so. I do need more GC controllers since the Classic controller for the Wii is garbage and SSBB practically requires something other than a Wiimote, but I kinda wish they'd make a controller like this wireless. It seems the wire is always about a foot too short and I end up having to lean forward so as not to yank the Wii out of the entertainment center.
