@Barfolemew: Well jeah but im sure that you'd probably have an airport extreme kind of adapter on this thing so you could charge it on the plane or somewhere else where there is a laptop jack.
But jeah i think the tablet pc mode is super good because that way you could put it in tablet pc mode and watch a full screen movie and enjoy the full movie on a flat surface instead of having to hold the umpc up like if it was a full laptop.

@darex: Lots of things can be had for $1600.
Cin failed to mention that the link shows the price in SGD dollars. Coverted to USD, that's approximately US$1,180 (inclusive of 7% SG VAT).

Not too bad for a UMPC packing a built-in optical drive, 1GB Ram and a Windows O/S, arguably one of its most expensive components. But like others have already said, 800Mhz is not a good choice for Vista. Wait for the XP version.

hahah yeah and maybe i'll win the lottery today and lose 10 pounds. of course this thing would sell like crazy if they did the things that you suggest (as i'm guessing all of us are basically thinking about the same things that sony would have to do to this to make it sell like hotcakes) but they wont because they're sony.

A beautiful thing like that with a touch screen? i'll up what you said by saying that they should take out any moving parts, make it relatively resistant to the various elements it would be exposed to and bring it down to a reason price (because you know that this thing is going to be about 1500 +) and you'd have a really popular machine.

I'm guessing that this machine is aimed more towards businesses or at least people who travel alot. Oh well...i guess i will just have to wait for a company to see the obvious, and produce an equally beautiful machine with all the right specs.

I've got a similar model without the optical drive, and it's actually pretty good, running XP though.

Good enough to watch a movie while traveling or surfing the net while taking a dump ;p

Who is going to get the least amount of work done on this thing?
The specs are cool and all, and it's not a bad looker, but SHEESH it seems like loading drivers is gonna be that thing's main priority for about 2 minutes if not more unless it's in standby.
Optical-Schmoptical.
I'm getting ready to order a USB enclosure for a nice little laptop DVD burner drive I've had laying around.
Anything remotely modern would be able to install an OS over USB from it, and it can stay stashed somewhere.
I'm really not digging the sub-Ghz CPU...No I'm sorry dawg, I gotta say no.

the price is NT$34,900 for the model without tv tuner and NT$37,900 for the one with tv tuner. both models use 80gb hdd though.
