Discipline seems so rare these days, no respect for others, let alone other people's stuff. Me? BOTH my parents are former Marines! I don't think I need to explain the level of discipline in my house growing up. Lest you jump to the wrong conclusions though, spankings were very rare and stopped early on.

When I was ~15, I had a HUGE pile of comics under my bed, in a random pile. I used this mess to hide the porn my bro gave me. I came home one day to find it all neatly stacked... one stack of comics, another of porn... with one comic on top of the porn! By this point, I had already been taught that porn was OK (by my mother!) so long as I know it's all just fantasy and never objectify women. Ya, well, severely embarrassed, I tossed it all and never spoke of this with my mom until I was in my twenties. She laughed so hard about that! Then told me she put the one comic on top to help me be circumspect about my collection.

But had I broken something to avoid choirs (or any other stupid reason), I'd be pretty much dead.

I like this one rule as I entered my late teens and started going out more, coming home late: if you get arrested, don't you dare call me in the middle of the night! I'll come get you after work the next day.

PS: If I had the money, I'd seriously bid for/buy the Xbox, then DONATE it and email the donation info to Beth so she can rub it in her little snit's face. Maybe even mail the donation receipt to her so SHE can claim it on the taxes.

Jeez. No Internet when I was a kid. If I wanted porn, I had to sneak looks at the JC Penny catalog (occasional see-through bra) or look through the Penthouses in my friend's dad's collection. Still, my point is that kids today have it easy when it comes to getting a look at some nudity or sex. Hell, teenaged girls today are taking pictures of themselves and emailing them or posting them on their myspace page! Back when I was in high school, it was a remarkable thing if you could get a glimpse into the girls' locker room, or if one of the girls would have a wardrobe malfunction during swimming class. Now, the girls are all-too-eager to share with their peers. Brats. At least our music was better.

If the kid isn't guilty of the porn offenses he's been accused of, it's going to cause resentment on a monumental level. The child pictured above looks more like an eight year old. At 13 I was 5'5" tall and 125 lbs. At 15 I was 5'10" tall and 160 lbs. much too big to be punished by my single mother.

Kid's hold grudges too. One day mom's going to come home and find her vacuum cleaner or the contents of her nightstand sold on ebay, or worse yet the family home burned down.

This is an excellent way to alienate your child and a clear example of poor parenting.

Now if Mom's a computer forensics expert and this is a dumbed down report for the masses, OK. But, chances are she saw something and didn't know what the hell she was looking at. Accusing the kid of surfing porn sites it a bit harsh and will foster feelings of unfair persecution and I'll bet he'll harbor more ill feelings towards his mother. At 13 years of age with a single mom I bet he'll start a bonafide rebellion soon.

Porn aside, I still think he should lose his XBOX for not minding his mother, but Ebay? Take it away from him for a month, lock it up at work or something.

My take, watch out what game you play Mom, in a year or two he'll be bigger than you... or you'll find that he's sold your vacuum cleaner or the contents of your nightstand on ebay.

"Running the driveway" (it's 70 feet long and at a 40 degree angle) X number of times.

"Hold the books" wherein a book was placed in each hand, with arms straight out to the sides, and being commanded to keep em there, let yer arms drop and you had to start all over.

"Sit in the hall" pretty much self explanitory, this one was used when we didn't go to sleep.

Run the driveway was the worst, though - to get pulled out of a warm bed and put outside, shoeless, on the rough driveway (it's patterned for traction) run up, run down, rinse, repeat 30 times.

Regarding the porn, I'd probably block that shit if I had kids, since there are things that you can find in your virtual travels that I'd rather my child not gaze upon, like tubgirl and 2 girls one cup. I love that the Frucci (undoubtedly from experience) advice is not "don't look at porn", but "you should have been more careful about it if you have a mom who knows her way around a computer enough to check out your cookies".
