I still have my SNES somewhere... but I have both types of controllers somehow! One with purple buttons where two of em are concave, and one with colored buttons where they're all convex. Must have taken a random trip to Europe at some point.

Actually it was only the SNES controllers in North America that were in to shades of purple, oh and the console looked different. In Europe the SNES was essentially the Japanese Super Famicom, with a different name.

The Super Famicom controllers had the 4 color design.

The SNES controllers had the two shades of purple buttons. (With the x and y being concave if memory serves me correctly.)

Actually not all US SNES controllers had the rainbow colored buttons. Mine came with the two shades of purple colored buttons.

Those are great! I am in the moving process and was checking out what old game systems I have. I stumbled upon first gen gameboy and nintendo, 2 SNES (with those old school remotes), N64, gamecube, and of course my Wii.

FYI, not official, but you've been able to use actual original controllers (both SNES and NES) with the Wii for quite some time now.
