Now I just sought out Komar & Melamid's supposed "Most Wanted Song" and I have to say I HATED it. I liked the "Least wanted song" better.

The "most wanted" song is bland, watered-down radio pop with R&B influences? Really?

Holy crap. I now understand why people call me "eccentric" -- I'm one of the "less than 200 people" who prefer the "least wanted" song to the "most wanted" song!

1/4 of the way through, and it's in the "so bad it's good" category. In the interest of science, I'll journal my reactions as I listen for the first time all the way through.

And yes, I think "My Humps" easily wins the most annoying song prize. By far.

OK... Now I've gotten to the Wal*Mart part, and yes-- Kids choruses are among the most annoying things ever.

Still not as bad as "My Humps" yet.

More opera rap. . . Bearable, even with bagpipes and telephones.

Hey now. I like pipe organs!

Kids + Wal*Mart + Casio + Opera + "Turkey in the Oven" = EVIL

Still not as evil as "My Humps" though.

Hmm. Banjos. Not that bad.

Even more opera rap with tubas and bagpipes. This is bad. This is almost deliciously bad.

Harps. No problem. Harps are largely inoffensive. Just sort of boring when played this way (although you should check out Joanna Newsom if you want some cool harp playing).

Discordant noises. No pain for me yet.

I'm guessing the ridiculous length, and the big empty nothing in the middle is one of the things people don't want in their music.

Labor Day! Oh, man. I really hate this kids part! The repetition is painful, but then the "Do all your shopping... At Wal*Mart" is getting to be like a punchline.

Mmm. French accordion plus messy marching band.

I guess I'm not the only person who thinks our National Anthem isn't a good piece of music. (The composer wasn't even a musician.)

So the lyrical themes people don't like are:
Holidays
Wal*Mart
"Cowboy style" or claims of being a cowboy.
Saying "yahoo"
rap-style bragging
"lock arms and sing"
"wait and see"
"the bells are ringing"

The lullaby music isn't so bad. Dull, though.

Yes. The megaphone. It shouldn't be part of music. I agree. Political protesting in the middle of a piece of music apparently bugs people... But I think this is a neat contrast. Lullaby mixed with an angry conservative hippie lesbian shouting into a mehaphone. I'll take more!

The end seems to be near. Everyone is singing now. Typical old-timey slow rag, with megaphone chick yelling.

Was that a kazoo?

It's done. Verdict? I'd love to make a stage musical out if it.

And it's still not worse than "My Humps".

@kylo4: Again, you're missing the difference between this semi-scientific attempt to make a song according to what people most not-want, and simple garbage.

If you want crap, Wikipedia's List of songs in English labeled the worst ever includes "My Humps" and much more, e.g. UK newscaster Reginald Bosanquet "singing" disco. Oh the humanity! (Reminds me to play my compilation of Kenny Everett's "World's Worst Wireless Show" on puke-green vinyl.)

I ordered the CD years ago when I read about "an opera singer raps over cowboy music with bagpipes and tuba" and fell out of my chair laughing. Anyone pretending to be cool by liking this didn't listen through to the distorted political ranting at 15 minutes.

Gizmodo's title is wrong, this is is NOT the most annoying song, or worst song. Read the explanation, it's the MOST UNWANTED. Komar and Melamid paid for a survey to find what song elements (length, theme, instruments, styles, singer, tempo, same-or-different, etc.) people like most and least, then they made two songs precisely according to the most wanted and the least wanted. Serious and funny conceptual art.

These were the only two songs in my iTunes library at work. Strangers would track me down to demand "WTF?"

It's a follow-on to Komar and Melamid's most and least wanted paintings project. Chinese and Americans have the same taste: a large mostly blue landscape with animals and a historical figure. (At the bottom of that page are the Web's most and least wanted paintings.)

So far, I don't think it's that bad...
The only parts I don't like is the overlapping beats, and well, most people don't like that.

I've listened about halfway, I just don't have interest in listening to it all the way.

Either way, this is just a sad attempt...you have to take songs that are structurally correct, but take the most annoying elements. This, they just took music various people dislike.

Anyways, the people who made this are a fucking insult thinking they can accomplish what they claimed.

It was more extremely boring than annoying to me but the sheer blandness of the tune and the schizophrenic opera vocal track and beat slowly drove me insane. At the end, I suddenly realize how abrasive the whole song was because my nerves were tingling and I felt rattled like a bird violently shaken in its cage.

But it still doesn't hold a candle to "true" "Difficult Listening Music" [as Laurie Anderson termed it] in terms of sheer unlistenability. I mean, at least it's recognizable as "music".
