The couple had not split up. They were arguing, and Ramazan (the male) left the residence to stay at his fathers house. While there, rather than go through a heated argument on the phone, the couple continued arguing via text messages.

In Turkish, the word 'sıkışınca' means 'when you're in a squeeze', and the word 'sikişince' means when you're screwing. Notice the 'e' at the end of the second word? Apparently Emine and her family didn't, hence the whole shenanigans and killing.

When trying to correct the misunderstanding, the woman's family assaulted Ramazan severely wounding him in the chest. Apparently, the man managed to stagger towards the exit while removing the not-so-surgically implanted knife from his chest. At this point, his significant other attempted to block his exit, continuing to assault him with a knife of her own when he wildly waved the knife in his possession in her direction, inadvertently and unintentionally wounding her. As the female's family immediately called for emergency assistance, they left Ramazan for dead as he wandered into the street. While Ramazan was lucky enough to be taken to a hospital by a caring citizen, Emine's family was devoid of such common sense and waited for an ambulance to arrive (response times in Turkey vary from 10 minutes into the hours). Emine died on the way to the hospital due to excessive blood loss, while Ramazan survived the attack.

Ramazan, unable to fathom this series of events committed suicide while in prison awaiting trial. Emine's father and two sisters will be tried for murder this week.

Oh, come on. I've known more than a few Turks, and they're always very INTENSE people. Their capacity for "just talking things out" seems limited. Usually, they'll fight first and only talk after you're bleeding out.
