The suggestion that people should "accommodate" technology is a statement that has NEVER crossed the lips of someone who truly understand where Apple is coming from. Apple would never make users "accommodate" bad design. That suggest IS the dumbest comment so far... nicely done!

There was a cashier at a grocery store near where I once lived, and she had long, fake acrylic nails. She couldn't do her job properly, because she had to either CAREFULLY tap the keys on the cash register with the very tip of her nails, or she used a pen to push each key. Slowly.

I'm just saying that saying that a woman with long nails "looks like a whore" is sexist - at the very least. It's the sort of thing I'd expect to hear spouted from Don Imus.

Further, as someone who has spent the last 15 years living in 3 of the 5 boroughs of New York City, using the A, B, C, E, F, N, R, Q, W, 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines as part of my various daily commutes to and from home, not including PATH which I take to my job in Newark, the vast majority of women whom I have seen on mass transit with nails of that length tend to be "minorities". Moreover, they take pride in those nails and many men find them (both the women and the nails) attractive.

Last time I checked, money spends the same no matter who is spending it. Telling customers to change their behavior because it doesn't conform to your image of who your customer should be is, at the end of the day, elitist and very often vaguely racist. That is the Macy's lesson. Selling Rocawear led to other "urban" brands like Sean John and Ecco being sold at Macy's. And yes, Macy's image did radically change - from a nearly obsolete department store that didn't know if it wanted to be Bloomingdales or Target to a profitable business.

If you do research on the recent histories of aspirational luxury brands, you'll find a recurring undercurrent from long-time customers about how the changing demographic has cheapened the brand.

Apple's diehard supporters are some of the more recent and infamous complainers about how the great unwashed masses now are buying their product and diluting the product's luxury status.

It's snobbishness.

Wow. Way to twist this into a racist debate. It's really simple. If you have long nails, you shouldn't be using iPhones or any other type of handheld touchscreen device without a stylus, or at least don't bitch went you scratch the screen all to hell. And are all women with long nails airheads and such? Nope. But the majority are, and you play the odds. Now feel free to take a cold shower and think about it for a while.

well, either shes dumb, or this is simply a character shes portraying.. then shes one of the best actresses/comic geniuses i have ever seen, and then i have nothing but respect.

Stephen Colbert does the same kinda thing on his show, portrays a character that is a conservative pundit, and vividly illustrates everything that is wrong with media and politics..

That point actually has some depth to it and reminds me of an excellent lesson that Jay-Z taught Macy's - white people aren't the only ones with money nor are they the only ones who like to spend their money.

Jay-Z worked out a deal with Macy's to start selling Rocawear. There was initial resistance to it, with some people asking what it would do for the store's image and the notion of the store's typical shopper. Of course, if you think about that point too much, you realized that it's just racism with a thin coating of "tradition". Macy's started selling Rocawear and, in doing so, expanded its customer base.

People with long nails shouldn't use the iPhone. Okay. Let's alienate the Puerto Rican billing clerk in my old office, my former Chinese colleague (she's a lawyer, but feel free to call her a whore - perhaps in front of the judge for whom she works), and any number of other women of color in New York who are neither bimbos nor whores.

And yes, she is brilliantly funny. The typical image of the Mac user is great when faced with the stark reality of Greg Packer. Now, if you don't mind, this Brooklynite has some blogging to do.
