Once upon a time, before Nintendos and Legos and people and kittens and horsies, the world was covered in plants! The plants were very tall and did very well because there was a lot more CO2 (what they breath!) in the air and the earth was very muggy and wet. Then came the DINOSAURS, and they liked to eat the plants and they lived for a very, very long time! As the dinosaurs and plants died (oh noes!) they fell to the ground. Some were eaten, but many fell in swamps were things break down very, very slowly. In fact, as the layers and layers of dead things built up, a black substance we call "coal" was born under ground (amazing!). This cycle of things dieing and turning into coal under ground went on for a very, very long time. And the carbon that the dead things had accumulated from their environment was buried in the ground with them (very important!) Then came a scary asteroid that killed a LOT of things! And at the same time the earth began to get chillier and the dinosaurs were no more (oh snaps!)... And the swamps began to dry up, and everything became more mild (yay!) Then the humans came (that's you!). And the humans started cutting down trees to make things and growing things. That seemed pretty bad now, but it wasn't too bad because the trees would have died anyways and new ones would grow in their place. The earth was mainly O.K. with this, even if the squirrels were not. But then, humans discovered the very old coal that lived deep underground. The same coal that had not been part of the earths natural cycle for a very, very long time. And guess what they did... They dug it out! And burned it so you can play your Nintendos. And they did this night and day. When you burn coal (or anything!) you release a lot of things, mainly carbon compounds like CO2. CO2 is not very fun because it rises into the air and forms a cuddly blanket around the world, trapping heat (easy experiment!). Which is good for plants (like poison ivy!), but too much of it can make the world very hot for horsies and humans. You see, the world has gone on for a very long time without all of this coal in its' natural cycle, but now we are burning a whole lot of it, very quickly and the sky (which is only about 60 miles thick, your dad could drive to space in an hour!) is very thin, so naturally, things are going to get very hot if we do not slow down or stop digging up dead plants and dinosaurs and burning them night and day! THE END

Well see that's fine, you are actually pretty energy efficient. The problem is, however, is that most people in this country are pissed about their electricity bill but at the same time are too damn lazy to grab a $10 6 pack of CFL bulbs from Walmart. Its absolutely ridiculous. To think that just by screwing in some lightbulbs, not only will you get the money you spent on it back in a couple months, but it will last a hellova lot longer than those stupid incandescent bulbs. They just think "oh nos it has mercury" and run away from it, not realizing the place where they bought it also recycles the damn things. GAH!

daftrok
