Two solutions come to mind, garage sale and/or driving up to the local college campus and seeing who wants to buy a cheap TV for their dorm/apt.

Luckily I found a buddy to buy my old CRT monitor but you make a great point.

I would never have wanted to ship that thing, it was a monster 19" Dell.

The real problem it seems, are all those CRT monitors and tv's that are too expensive to ship to a second hand buyer and end up in the fills, or that little kid's living room.
