the magnets are slightly larger (5mm instead of 4.something), but there cheaper, you can get extra's incase you lose some, there epoxy plated (which means they wont shatter, chip, etc as easily) and best of all, you dont need to wait 2+ months to get them.

@CrouchingBruin: Government recalls of some toy was because 1. those magnets broke off from the toys unintentionally. 2. those toys were designed for small children who chew on their toys or swallow everything they get their hands on.

This one is designed from the ground up as magnets. They are many magnetic toys in the market that has the same danger, but they are dangerous by nature and not intented for small children. It is true that adults who play with this should take precaution if there are small kids in the house.

Make sure this is kept out of reach of small children. It is probably not a choking hazard because of its tiny size, but imagine if a toddler swallows a few balls every few hours, these balls will staple the intestines into a knot. This can kill. Beware!

@_badtziscool: actually, no... K&J Magnetics prices 200 3/16 spheres at over $200 (about 20% more for the more common 1/4 inch size)... united nuclear would be almost 300... the cheapest price I found googling around a bit would be about $80.

I'd guess these aren't one of the stronger N-ratings that most magnet places online sell.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled a number of "toys" like this because of the possibility of young children swallowing the magnets. If more than one magnet is swallowed, with a short time interval in between, then the magnets can attract each other through the intestinal wall and cause the intestine to pinch or twist, causing perforation or infection. So I'll be surprised if this product stays on the market very long.
