The Leatherman (and the bulkier Swiss Army Knife) are just too big to always carry with you as an afterthought. They're nice tools, but they're not always in my pocket.

I do have a Swiss Card, though, which while rather flimsy and lacking some more advanced tools, is always in my wallet. That alone makes it to me the better tool. I would guess the standard and mini SAKs would also qualify (as they can be used as key fobs)

The thing has been awesome since day one.
It's been clipped in my pocket almost every day for almost ten years and it's only been replaced once (broken clip.)
Seven of those years were spent doing field service on specialized vehicles for law enforcement.

In the field, doing real world tasks a Swiss Army knife would be nearly useless to me.
On top of that the stupid thing would ride at the bottom of a pocket, which is about the most annoying place in the world to carry a heavy-ish piece of steel.

It's likely to be replaced by a Leatherman Skeletool when the times comes.
If the time comes.

They are poorly designed, with terrible UI and the monthly fees are outrageous. The "Cool" features everyone talks about are ridiculously expensive to use and you still have to navigate the crappy U/I to use them. The iPhone beats Japanese cellphones hands down on U/I and will catch up feature wise in the near future.

On the subject of Macgyver, he would use a Leatherman Wave. You should see what Les Stroud on Survivorman does with one. It is pretty impressive.

Add in the replaceable carbide wire cutters, and it's a tool to be reckoned with.
