Secondly, Joker is not a scarred, scary looking clown. He LOOKS like a merry prankster.

He doesn't growl menacingly, he doesn't strike threatening tough-guy poses.

He capers, prances, dances, and laughs. While shooting people in cold blood. Using a gun with a "BANG" flag sticking out of its barrell.

Heath isn't playing the Joker. Maybe he's channeling Clown from Spawn, or one of those Joker imitators from the Batman Beyond cartoon. But not the real Joker.

Secondly, the Tim Burton Batman, while MUCH better than what followed was still waay off base. Batman is NOT angsty, or emo. He's too driven, too focused on his obsessive war on crime to mope. His emptions are tightly controlled and channelled. Angst is the opposite of emotional control.

We can forget Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. "Batman" to me will always be the best film made. It's a classic and pioneered the super hero movie and made Batman more popular than what he ever was. Batman Returns was great as well. So, let's just forget the latter two and still remember those.

Nicholson did nothing with the Joker. He was too old, and I never understood why we, as the audience, should be worried about him.

Iron Man had a kickass hero and a standard villain; this seems to be the reverse. Doesn't look nearly as funny or has been as long-awaited as Iron Man, so it loses in that respect. I'll still probably see it...sometime.

So I do not really like batman. He just plays the Yo Yo game. He goes out catches a bad guy, bad guy escapes.. he goes out and catches bad guy again, bad guy escapes..wash rinse and repeat.

Of course, I am just talking from my experience with the animated series. I have never had a chance to read any of the comics. So in the comics he may actually dispose of his enemies.. and he might not?

Besides that, it looks like it may be a good movie. That joker seemed pretty bad ass.

@Gilbert: what? are you kidding me? For a first attempt at an Ironman movie it was one of the best comic to film translations ever made. have you ever read any of the Ironman comics before the Ultimate universe started? There's a lot of depth there even though you're only going to get so much out of a two hour film.

I like Burton's original Batman, I like Batman Begins. But I enjoyed Ironman a bit more. Both are great films and I look forward to the new Batman but I think Heath Ledger is going to make or break that film. We've all seen what Christen Bale can do in front of the camera, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Cain are all great actors but there were in the last film so no surprises there.

If I have to say would is going to take the crown this summer I'd have to go with Ironman. I want one of those Ironman suits...I never wanted a batman costume and a utility belt.

Can't quite compare both. But I'd take Iron Man anytime... sorry.

My thoughts exactly. Of course the Batman series of movies is going to be more popular, there's been a ton of them already to garner an audience over a span of many years. Iron Man is just starting out. You can't really compare them in terms of popularity when you take that into account.

I think the Dark Knight looks good, but then again I saw Iron Man and liked that as well. And many people brought up the point that both of these characters are just normal (though rich) guys, no superpowers or anything. That does make them slightly more endearing to the common man compared to some other characters.

And you may scoff and call we a weenie, I don't mind; but just the trailer's extent of Ledger's Joker scared the snot out of me. That is a rare and exciting experience, my friends. I am VERY excited about this movie.

I left the last Batman caring very much about the troubled soul that is Bruce Wayne. I, on the other hand, could give two shits about Tony Stark.

The trouble with origin films is that it's 85% how they got there, 15% how they use it to defeat the flavor of the month at the end. The difference between the Bat and the Ore is that during the 85%, I bought into Bruce's motivation. During Iron Man, I kept thinking asking myself whether our pretty boy hero ever read, or at the very least, watched the news.

Sure, we all know the stories, but in all honesty, who troubles you more? Who can you identify with more? How well did the filmmakers go about convincing you the character is better off for having you around as a sympathetic viewer?

To me there really isn't any comparison. Iron Man is really, really fun. Batman is more than that.

Afterwards, there was much backtracking: "Oh, the movie's not about the joker, as much as it is umm... uuhhh.... TOMMY LEE JONE- I mean, Harvey Dent!!! Yeah!! But, Tommy Lee Jones isn't doing it... uh... someone else is... ummm..."

I'm sure that Harvey Dent was supposed to be in the Dark Knight, but not nearly in the big role that the previews now are putting him in.

I did see the Iron man movie and it was okay. I think it was too over the top with the technology. Yeah, I know, it's make believe, but Batman seems to do okay without holographic 3D projectors and sentient robotic helpers. The tech of Batman is at least 'plausible'.

My only wish (that has already not come true) is that they leave the costume alone. One of the biggest things that bothered me with the previous franchise is they kept trying to 'one up' the suit. The Tim Burton batman suit of the 89 film was excellent. The Batman begins suit was also very, very good (with a good backstory too). I see they're already trying to make it more like an exoskeleton with visible technology and that drives me up the wall. I don't want nipples on my Batman suit.

I noticed that the Iron Man movie is doing the same sort of thing, setting things up for later movies, not exactly setting up a sequel, but setting up story lines that span multiple movies. Older movies did not do that, since you were not guaranteed a second movie, it all came down to the response to the first ones. I am glad to see that the super hero movies have confidant backers who are willing to gamble on a movie series, instead of one movie at a time.

What's great about Batman is that he is vulnerable. He goes in with black kevlar and a utility belt - and NO GUNS and still kicks ass. It's one reason why Superman doesn't do anything for me - unless you happen upon a piece of kryptonite - he's invincible.
