I work for competitor in the us cellular business and they brought this up the day it was announced. Too bad At&T gets all the good handsets first. A good carrier like t-mobile should be able to get their mitts on something nice once and a while.

I LOVED my BB 8830, then got an iPhone for Christmas, this thing looks "hella-sweet" but the price????

@matsayz: Oh and iProducts never have bugs or issues, I mean since the first generation of the iPod, we have seen vitrually no problems with the battery, the interface, etc whatsoever.

Question. Do they really need that much real estate for the ear piece? I mean couldn't they add more screen size and hide that little guy a bit higher? I just wish there were a wee bit more screen size. Me still likey, don't get me wrong. Once you go black(berry) you never go back(berry).

I agree that this may be some sort of publicity stunt by RIM; however, I would argue that Apple's secretive approach builds a lot more buzz, and generates much more attention. People are speculating and talking about the iPhone without any official announcement about a release date, specs, etc. This business model for releasing a product could be disastrous for a lot of companies, because often, they cannot live up to the hype, where Apple continually delivers.

I'll bet that a survey of ordinary Americans would find that more people recognize the iPhone over any Blackberry device despite the iPhone's infancy in the market. Even if you were to only survey business people, the results would more than likely show equal awareness (with different perceptions) of each brand.

I've been a diehard Apple user for nearly 15 years, but i picked the BB Curve from ATT. My coworkers have iPhones and they look and feel amazing - - but POP email doesn't work much of the time.

Also,the Curve is lightweight and I never notice it in my pocket. The iPhone feels like a brick.

9000 come to me! I still have the original pearl and to be honest, it is a slow as mo-las-ass. But it is solid, great text, outlook sync and internet. But I cannot WAIT to ugrade this little gem. It's outdated for sure. I do NOT want an iphone because the iphone is a toy from what I have seen. Great for music, having pictures on your phone and browsing the web but for business it just won't cut it. I think the 9000 will be my next phone based on my hopes and wishes... please be a decent phone because I really need to upgrade BADLY!

I have a BB too, and it's much better than an iPhone for several personal reasons. Primarily, I can't be bought simply for eye candy. I like the pearl because it is very small, better battery life, i have an 8gb card, my camera has flash, and there are literally thousands of apps and games you can get, many for free. I dont have to deal with iTunes, and that's priceless. Clearly there are many people who want an alternative to the iPhone. I've never hand any problems with BBs and i've switched over from WM for good.

Why get snooty over what phone you have? That's pathetic, really.

I own both (work and personal). Have to say that while the iPhone is great I treat it as somewhat of a novelty. All the hard hitting stuff (email, texting, etc) I tend to use the BlackBerry. Can't wait for the 9000 to hit and I'll probably get the 3G iPhone when that comes out as well.

Not to hate on iPhones here, but am I like the only person here who has a Blackberry? Honestly guys in terms of internet speed and e-mail and texting capabilities the BB blows the iPhone out of the water. I have never texted or E-Mailed as fast and as accurately than with the current Pearl II. Once you get a Blackberry, you become accessible exactly where and when you want to be at extremely fast speeds. It's kinda creepy because it already knows what I'm going to say.... I can honestly load gizmodo on my phone (all pictures and text available with a quick scroll of my pearl ball) in about 6 seconds.

@Townie: And furthermore - Blackberry seems to date to have the best centralized management infrastructure for enterprise use.

I personally find it interesting that this seems to be the case even today, when other platforms have had a time to work on competing infrastructures. This is FOR SURE missing from the iPhone, irrespective of anything else from an aesthetics or design standpoint (which are all of lower priority anyway).

@Mitch: I think a combo like the Treo (shut up) would be cool - touch for functions, keyboard for text entry. Tradeoff is in screen real estate, of course....

just wait...reportedly blackberry is working on a touch screen version as well which will be their attempt at an "iphone killer". Personally I think it's a bad idea...what always attracted people to blackberry was the full qwerty keyboard...and what's the advantage to a physical keyboard over a touch screen? Obvious - you can type while driving. Can't really do it terribly well with a touch screen. (I also hate the perl...the departure from a full qwerty keyboard made it more phone, less blackberry IMHO)
