"In the event of laptop theft, if the FailSafe agent pre-installed on the Fujitsu FDE HDD product is removed by the computer/data thief, the authorized owner will be able to remotely re-install the FailSafe agent in the compromised system and take further steps to ensure protection as well as recovery of the data on the laptop."

Ironically, this reads like it might also result in the most compromised system ever built if an evil-doer installs one in your computer, trojan style, and remotely and covertly "recovers" (and/or destroys) your data.

frigg

@FreeMan:

Unless it's packed with remote detonators and a wad of C4, that's a total crap statement.

maybe it is! and the bomb gets armed remotely but then inexplicably waits for user input... namely pressing the delete key.

seems ridiculous you would invent such a thing (then go to the trouble of putting it in various hackers computers) without such an obvious bypass for the user-input requirement.

so *then* you have to go in guns-blazing and hope a Terminator figurine doesn't accidently fall on the delete key during the ensuing firefight.

x23

It was obvious and already said, but you know that when someone creates software to protect you someone else is creating software to screw with you. Therefore the drive will be compromised and you will loose all your data. I hope they have a good help line, not technicians, therapist. I know many people that would consider suicide or other drastic measures if they lost all their data...

andrelix
