And power hungry = battery life, like I said. I personally don't care, since I didn't buy a 1st gen iPhone. Although, I will be picking up an iPhone 2. I feel like now it is a real convergence phone, with features that truly compete with windows mobile phones. I just hope they give it a version (ie. iPhone Fast, and iPhone Classic or something) because I don't want to explain I'm using the iPhone 2. A name would be easier imo.

What has changed? I mean there's no way Apple files a public document without someone gleaning each and every detail. If they are going to sell iPhone II in June, why haven't we known all the details for months?

Had you done two seconds of research you would have found that they left out 3g for two reasons: Current generation chips were too big, and current generation chips were too power hungry.

Just because you have a 3G chip doesn't mean you can't use EDGE. It automatically uses EDGE when 3G is not available. Therefore, they could've included 3G for the cities that did have it, and then once your city was upgraded, you could use it too. The only logical reason Apple could've left 3G out of the iPhone is battery life. Other than that, they were just being greedy, they know people will buy the 2nd revision especially if they include crappy data capabilities in the 1st iPhone. 3G was practically standard when they released the 1st iPhone, yet they didn't follow suit.

I remember my friend had an HTC and we went into a Hyatt not more than 20 minutes outside of DC and he got NO signal. People complain that EDGE is slow but slow is better than nothing. And nothing is what a lot of cities across the US would have gotten if iPhone was strictly 3G on initial release.

I assume that when you aren't in a 3G area that it just downgrades to EDGE, which is decent enough. But it will be nice to have 3G when its available.
