When a ghost writer of a failing young adult book series heads back to her hometown, things go... poorly. Very, very poorly. If you thought Charlize Theron was a monster in Monster, you should see her in Young Adult.

Don't let the name fool you; Young Adult is a dark comedy of the highest order, with a trifecta of devilishly clever of talents associated with it: writer Diablo Cody, director Jason Reitman, and supporting actor Patton Oswalt. At its heart it's an immorality tale; lives are ruined, nobody learns anything, everything breaks. But cutting through the bleakness is a wry humor that lets you identify with these people from a safe distance, and laugh along as their worlds crumble.

There are worse ways to spend an hour and a half, although the same can't be said for the characters in it. [Amazon Prime, Netflix]
