So when we said the future iPods could have triple the battery life using the new PortalPlayer PP5022 chipset, what we meant to add was, "the very same chipsets already in use in the new 2G iPod minis." Why we didn't put together the greatly increased battery life of the new iPod mini and the new chipset I'll never know, but thanks to our friendly, neighborhood engineer who pointed out our oversight (which we didn't confirm, but we don't have a new mini to open up, either), we now know why PortalPlayer would spill the beans on their new chipset before someone actually used it. Which is to say, they didn't.
