There's an old urban legend that basically says there's about $500 worth of metal in a car and the rest is pure profit. Not sure that's true, but you can be damn sure that Intel chips cost $40 to make. Obviously, there are some exceptions, but I can't imagine that at the rate at which Intel pumps out silicon they've gotten pretty good at avoiding QA issues by this time. Think about that next time you drop $1,600 for a laptop.
