Look out Intel, Airgo Networks Inc. says it has developed a new wireless chip that is four times faster than the WiFi chip you are using right now. Being touted as a sort of silver bullet to the wireless world, Airgo's MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) chips could actually exceed the speed of wired networks, but still be backward compatible with 802.11b/g standards—which would make life so much easier for us home office slogs. Right now, they exceed 240 mbps (compare that to the 54 mbps that WiFi chips hit now), and should be selling for 20 percent less than chips on the market today. Look for them to start making an appearance in 2006— and start thinking of how to design your home theater for networked TV.
