Yesterday we hit you with a rumour that Samsung would be coming out with a combo HD DVD/Blu-ray drive. Today we can give you some specifics on the company's $1000 Blu-ray player, which should ship near the end of April. This, according to Jim Sanduski, Samsung digital video and audio products group senior marketing VP. The player, already known as the BD-P1000, will output 1,080i and 720p high-definition signals as well as standard-definition signals, and looks like it will totally screw the HD-DVD guys, who have been touting their first-to-market advantage. The one problem? This player is going to be about double the cost of HD-DVD players that have been announced.
