MacVision has changed its name to Nextar and now offers this rock-bottom priced 7-inch wide-screen portable media player that has a 40GB hard drive that can play back and record MPEG4 video. The list of file types that it can play is impressive, including DivX, MPEG, MPEG4, AVI, DAT, VOB, MP3, WMA, WAV, JPEG, BMP and GIF files. If that 40GB hard drive isn't big enough, the 4-pound player has an SD card slot for more storage, and it communicates with your PC via USB 2.0.

At a price of around $380, we're wondering, what's the catch? Anybody tried this thing?
