Lumen is an oil lamp made of stainless steel that uses an object that lighting designers call a cookie (cuculoris), a pattern which blocks light, to cast a shadow on the wall behind it.

Brooklyn artist Adam Frank designed the oil lamp which uses clean-burning 17-hour fuel cells (we're thinking this might be a gel fuel similar to Sterno), and it's available with either the tree pattern you see here, a nest, or a flock of birds. Just 5.75 inches tall, it's $48.
