After making throwing the FCC a few bones (maybe) to push past its last regulatory roadblock, AT&T finished its $86 billion acquisition of BellSouth and announced that Cingular will soon (again) sport the AT&T name.
Now that Cingular is wholly owned by AT&T, expect a hard push on bundles which include mobile phone, internet and cable services. Accordingly, advertisers will be able to purchase ads across all three media, so it looks like mobile advertising is going to be unavoidable in the new year, regardless of your service provider. Upshot? Don't hold your breaths for anything that actually benefits us to come out of this in the long term. Just ads. And the AT&T logo. Everywhere. At least until the long-prophesied war with the cable industry begins, and the Chosen One emerges.
