Contradicting earlier reports from the Guardian, Reuters reported late Monday that four sources close to the matter have confirmed that WebOS is being sought by companies, potentially Oracle, and that HP is weighing the benefits of a potential sale. PC Magazine has further analysis.
Who's left that could make WebOS competitive? I had hoped for Amazon but they made their own Android version and I can't see why they would ditch that so soon, Nokia is going all out with WP7 in the coming years, RIM (even if they could have made it competitive) is working on QNX/BBX as their next OS, etc etc. I keep thinking HTC, but what would Google and Microsoft think of that? I would love it if they just went ahead and open sourced it, but that's a good chunk of work for no profit.
