We've been waiting for this quiet MacBook Pro refresh and it's just like what we expected: slightly better. All across the board, the processors are a tick faster, the graphics are a wee better and the hard drive storage is bigger.

This update ain't bringing a new MacBook Air-like form factor and to be honest, it's barely an update. The 13-inch MBP's 2.3 GHz Core i5 and 2.7 GHz Core i7 is now 2.4 GHz and 2.8 GHz, respectively. Hard drive space has been bumped to 500 GB (from 320GB). The 15-inch MacBook Pro's standard processor is now a 2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz Core i7 (from 2.0 and 2.2) with a new AMD Radeon 6750M with 512 MB memory on the low-end and a Radeon HD 6770M with 1 GB of memory on the higher-end model. The 17-inch MBP matches the same updates as the higher end 15-inch MBP. So yeah, an update that's only an update for update sake. [Apple via AppleInsider

I have a mid 2009 model 15in. They really need to drop the optical drive and have the option to replace it with either another battery or another hard drive. If you could have standard hard drive and a smaller SSD for the OS and the apps you want to load fast that would be awesome. I've only used the DVD drive like 5 times maybe in the time I've had it.
