Hans Rosling—my favorite Swedish professor—explains why statistics are so amazing and why we, The People, should use them to keep our governments in check and understand the world around us. A fascinating video that you will really enjoy. [YouTube]

Hans Rosling videos (especially his TED talks) and his [www.gapminder.org] website should be mandatory for anyone studying statistics, sociology, world affairs, or just about anything.
I always show his videos to anyone I know who is pessimistic about humans and our progress in the world. Sadly many people just go "statistics are all lies!", but Hans Rosling shows us how to look at these numbers in a different way, and his stats are all well sourced and few are the kind that would be significantly biased in any way.
