The fight for the 700MHz spectrum has reached a milestone: an anonymous bidder has made a $4.7 billion offer, surpassing the minimum reserve price of $4.6 billion.
As long as it must be "open access" now, then nothing else matters. Whoever owns it will have to sell licenses to other companies so they can make devices that use the spectrum. And if google has it, well I would expect to see something like "wifi" everywhere, only not using wifi frequencies at all, so basically, you're laptop will be antiquated in 10 years or so based on that alone.
But at least the government is making a smooth 10 billion for little effort and expenses.
