There's a rare material used in cellphones that is mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The material, columbite tantalite, is mined by workers under inhumane conditions, including rape. Now, activists are calling for phones to be "rape-free." [AllThingsD]
I have to go on the serious side here and say that if such conditions exist and I knew what models used this material, I would not buy them and would tell everyone I knew not to as well and then write letters and e mails to the company to stop its use. Nothing stops until someone speaks out.
