Ditch the flip-mirror found on dSLRs, move to an electronic viewfinder and camera companies could completely abandon the current design metric. And I think that would be a good thing. There must be a more comfortable and stable method by which to hold a camera (especially the larger and heavier dSLRs), especially if they could be designed with such factors in mind from the onset.
