Apparently someone at GameStop got a little trigger happy and posted the product page for Xbox Kinect early, revealing a $150 price tag. That sounds about right, but at $99 it'd be a guaranteed home run. [Gamestop via Engadget]
I'd say this is an "introductory" price to test the waters. If it doesn't sell well because of this, it will probably get lower. But seriously, who here is surprised? Microsoft was charging $100 for a wifi dongle. Seriously? It was just a wifi dongle. They were also getting you gamer folk out there with their silly HDD cartridge prices. I have a feeling that after release, there will be promos and game bundles that either lower the price or add value onto the accessory with games that would actually exploit its capabilities.
