US Cellular is poised to become the first carrier in the States to offer a free battery swap program for customers that are loyal enough to hold on to their handset.

Starting tomorrow, customers with dead or dying batteries can walk into any US Cellular store and receive a fully-charged replacement for free. The only catch is that in order to be eligible, your phone must have been purchased within the last 18 months. Still, for those that don't go switching phones every year, this could be a great service. Hopefully, some of the major carriers will follow their lead. [Mobility Digest]
