Certain gear starts generating buzz long before it actually hits the shelves, and it sucks to have to sit around and wait for it to arrive, especially when, as is so often the case, the expected release dates are shrouded in mystery. Do you hold out until the bitter end, then stand in line all night to be one of the earliest adopters? Or do you impulsively buy the next best thing, just to end the excruciating wait? What to do? What to do?

Well if you're like us, you obsessively scour the Internet hoping for any crumb of an update. For example, the Panasonic Viera VT30 Series television that was unveiled at this year's CES got us salivating for the moment we'll be able to enjoy its incredible 65" HD 3D display in our own abodes—but we're still waiting for hard info about when it's being released.

Given the storm of rumors about what this year will bring in terms of new tech gadgetry, we've teamed up with Verizon to bring you the 2011 Gadget Forecast. We've waded through the trade show talk and online chatter to gather Gizmodo's favorite gear for the year, and though the outlook for what's coming out and when might be hazy, the Gadget Forecast features predictions about the newest phones, tablets, cameras and all the much-talked-about goodies you've been so patiently waiting for.
