If coffee's part of your daily routine, it makes a lot of sense to carefully choose the gear you're touching on a daily basis. If you've got your brewing setup down, that means you should upgrade your mug. And there are few better travel mugs than the Contigo West Loop Travel Mug.

Gizmodo alum Joel Johnson called these mugs a lifechanger back in 2010:

The magic of Contigo is their one-touch button lids, which more or less make it impossible for a person to spill liquid from the mugs on accident. You have to press the button each time you sip to open a small port on the top of the mug... But it's so great to be able to just throw the Contigo wherever you want. My old BMW doesn't have cupholders, but I could just throw the Contigo next to the emergency brake and not worry if it toppled over. I am looking at the Contigo next to my keyboard right now, where it stays throughout most of the year full of coffee or tea.

I use a Contigo mug on a regular basis, and it's true — I trust it enough to throw it into a backpack, with my laptop, while it's full of coffee. Amazon's got the best price on them. The black 16-ounce version is $15.50, and the silver version (which is also dishwasher-safe) is $16. The prices for the other colors vary. Everywhere else charges $20 or more, plus shipping. [Amazon]

Note: Joel's original piece said that Costco sometimes stocks a 2-pack for $20. It appears to be in-store only and episodic, but if you're a member and nearby, it's worth a shot.

Another silly use of carbon fiber. At least this time you're not paying the traditional absurd carbon fiber premium (perhaps because it's not real carbon fiber): you can get this iPhone 5 case shipped for $3. Sure, it's not real carbon fiber, but the sticker accomplishes the same thing: it announces you're someone with more money than taste. Only in this case, you don't even need a lot of money. The Body Shop is a soap and lotion chain that has 2400 stores in 61 countries — including one in a generic mall near you. Their stuff is usually overpriced in that mall-slash-retail way, but today from their website (and in-stores) everything's half off. They've got men's stuff and a gift section, too. [Body Shop]

Physical Media

Here's the downside to streaming services: you'll want to revisit old shows or movies to find out they're no longer offered. For example, Downton Abbey. The BBC just signed a huge exclusive streaming deal with Amazon. That means that starting June 18, Downton Abbey won't be on Netflix (although it will be on Amazon Prime streaming.) Availability is one thing old fashioned physical media will always excel at — although it's more expensive, you can rely on it to build a library. Seasons 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey on Blu-ray are $37 on Amazon, and usually it costs $50. [Amazon]
